Galaga

Galaga is an old arcade game – one of the coolest ever made.

Galaga was developed and published by Namco in Japan and published by Midway in North America in 1981.

The arcade version of it has been ported to many consoles, and it has had several sequels, most recently for the Xbox Live Arcade service titled Galaga Legions.

Game Description

As a spaceship moving left to right at the bottom of the screen, you need to shoot at enemies as they enter, assemble in formation and fly down at you. If you allowed an alien ship to capture one of your ships in its tractor beam, you could shoot the foe later and double your fire power!

Galaga Today

If you can afford a Galaga arcade machine, you must be very lucky (and happy). If not – download MAME32 and the needed ROMS, and enjoy a good game of Galaga. You can also play Galaga Online.

Two cute facts about Galaga

  • The TV series Lost included a submarine named Galaga, in honor of the arcade game.
  • In 1982, MGM sent a Galaga machine to Matthew Broderick for him to practice prior to shooting the movie WarGames. He practiced for two months and the Galaga arcade unit makes two appearances in the film.
