The casual games scene is hotter than ever. Independent developers are sprouting like mushrooms after the rain, and there are many new games born every day.

A lot of the games are repetitious – things we’ve seen before, played before and got tired of before. On the other hand, games who try something completely new and unknown don’t often succeed, because gamers sometimes prefer the familiar.

Still, you don’t have to re-invent the wheel in order to create a cool new game. Sometimes, it’s enough to give the game a different feel to it – and that’s all you’re going to need.

Check out 4 Differences for example. A new game on Kongregate, that from first look offers nothing new – it’s just another “Find the Differences” game, and it’s even less challenging than the usual ones, because you only need to find four differences, rather than the usual five or six.

Still, 4 Differences is a lovely, different gaming experience. The most prominent feature are the graphics – they are extremely well done and unique, and give a special feel to the game. The surreal music contributes to the soothing effect, making this a fun, relaxing game, with a lot of cool ambiance.

In each stage, the screen is split into two parts – and your mission is to find the differences between the similar-but-different images. For extra comfort, the mouse pointer will move simultaneously in both halves of the screen, making it easier to point out the differences.

The graphics aren’t static, though: airplanes fly in the sky, animals suddenly walk around and the entire scenery moves, reflects and waves with your mouse gestures. A lovely experience which makes this game much more fun to play.

So, we have a simple concept with a unique execution, great graphics and wonderful ambiance. All in all, 4 Differences is a cool game to play!

Crush the Castle Players Pack is a wonderful casual game. It’s time consuming but not overly-difficult, and it’s a great game to play at work, since you don’t have to constantly keep your hands on the keyboard or mouse.

In Crush the Castle you are required to do one thing – destroy castles and kill all of their occupants. To achieve that you have a catapult, that hurls different kinds of rocks and bombs on the poor castle inhabitants. You start with small rock and advance to killer bombs.

Some castles are very easy to destroy, even with one shot. Others require more careful planning. If you destroy the castle in very few shots – you get medals.

In the first Crush the Castle game, players were invited to create and send their own castle designs. With over 1400+ castles submitted, Crush the Castle Players Pack was made for the fans by the fans.

As with most games in Kongregate, Crush the Castle Players Pack offers fun, distraction and destruction. Go forth and crushify!

Kongregate is a great place for casual and addictive games. Not every games that’s published there is a great one, but there are quite a few gems – even games that can keep you busy for hours, like Desktop Tower Defense, Monster’s Den: Book of Dread, Boxhead Zombies and much more.

And now we have Storm the House 3 – a house-defending game, a sequel to Storm the House 1 & 2.

The purpose of the game is to defend your house from growing waves of ferocious warriors. You can choose Campaign gameplay, or one of a few mini-games available.

You start off with a simple handgun, which has only 7 shots and a slow reload time. At first, your enemies are slow and equipped only with swords, but as the days progress, the attackers include gunmen, armed Jeeps, suicide trucks, tanks, helicopters and more.

When you kill an enemy you receive some money, and with it you can upgrade your weapons and buy interesting defense towers, like a flame thrower, laser shooter and missile launcher. You can also buy gunmen to assist you in your fighting, and repairmen, to help you fix the damage done to your house.

Surviving 40 days in the games is not easy, and there are some close calls, especially when the suicide trucks start to show up. If you calculate your steps right (hint: lean hard on the defense towers), you can easily survive the needed 40 days for a badge – and beyond. At some point the attack waves become ridiculously dense and heavy, but if you are equipped with the right stuff – you’ll be able to make it.

Storm the House 3 is a fun, time-consuming game. It requires a good mouse accuracy, fast reactions and some strategic thought.

Game Walkthrough – 40 Days Campaign

Buy 3 gunmen as soon as you can.
Buy a shotgun and shoot at groups.
Buy Flamer Joe and upgrade range his range twice. Let him handle the foot soldiers and you aim for cars.
Buy 2 laser towers and max out on them.
Make sure you upgrade your wall at least once – or the suicide trucks will kill you.
Buy about 40 gunmen and a few repairmen
Sell Flamer Joe, buy another laser and purchase Old Glory.
Add gunmen until you’ve got 60 or more and get about 40-50 repairmen.
KILL THEM ALL!
